A Tale of Three Austin Favorites
Drinks Lounge, Drinks Backyard, and Little Drinks Lounge are three bars in Austin that feel like home. They have earned their spots on my list of must-visit locations. Each offers something unique, yet all three embody the inclusive, laid-back spirit that makes Austin special. Whether you’re out for a casual hangout or a fun night with friends, these bars have you covered.
Drinks Lounge
📍 2001 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702
I’ve been coming to Drinks Lounge since 2021, and it quickly became one of my go-to spots. The vibe is cool and retro. It has tall leather booths, funky chandeliers, and a turf-covered patio. These features make it a perfect place to unwind.
The cocktails here are always on point. My all-time favorite is the Frozen Cherry Limeade. I’ve also had their Glittery Martini (Tito’s Vodka, Lavender Simple, Lime). Additionally, the Hot Toddy (Jameson Irish Whiskey, Honey, Lemon, Clove) hit the spot on different occasions. The Glittery Martini has a subtle sparkle that adds a little extra fun. The Hot Toddy is perfect for cozying up on cooler nights.
Don’t leave without trying the Loaded Cheese Fries. They’re perfectly crispy, topped with queso, bacon, and jalapeños—basically everything you want in a bar snack without any sogginess. Drinks Lounge delivers great food, strong drinks, and the kind of vibe that keeps you coming back.
Drinks Backyard
📍 6328 S Hwy 183, Austin, TX 78744
You’ll find me over in Southeast Austin at Drinks Backyard. I go there when I’m in the mood for a more relaxed, outdoor experience. The huge patio is perfect for everything from casual hangouts to live music nights. The dog park makes it a must-visit for pet owners.
The drink menu here is just as stellar. I recently tried their Backyard Spritz, Spicy Margarita, Doo Wop Frozen, and Espresso Martini. Let me tell you—it was delicious. The bold coffee flavors mixed with just the right amount of sweetness make it a drink worth savoring.
Drinks Backyard offers plenty of seating. There are TV screens for sports. They even provide misting fans to keep you cool during Austin’s hotter days. You can sip on a frozen cocktail. Dive into their tasty food truck options. This bar is all about good vibes and great drinks.
Little Drinks Lounge
📍 3801 S Congress Ave Ste 116, Austin, TX 78704
I haven’t been to Little Drinks Lounge as much as the other two locations. But, it’s just as special to me. This spot is tucked away on South Congress. It is smaller and cozier. It still delivers the same friendly atmosphere and top-notch cocktails.
Little Drinks Lounge feels like a hidden gem that’s perfect for a more intimate night out. The staff is always welcoming, and the drink options never disappoint. It’s definitely a spot I look ahead to visiting more often.
A Personal Connection
What makes these bars truly stand out to me is the team behind them. I first learned about the owners through Bar Rescue’s episode on The Brixton. A while later, some friends introduced me to Drinks Lounge. Shout out to Chris and Ashley! Since then, I’ve seen how dedicated the owners are to creating spaces that feel like home.
These bars are LGBTQ+ friendly and dog-friendly. They are built around the kind of Austin charm. I try to hold onto this charm as the city continues to grow and change. Every visit feels like a reminder of what makes Austin so unique. The perfectly crafted Hot Toddy at Drinks Lounge captures Austin’s essence. Also, the refreshing Spicy Margarita at Drinks Backyard embodies the city’s character.
