Ichiban

📍7310 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78757

Ichiban is a family-owned traditional Japanese restaurant that feels like a hidden treasure in north Austin. Its lowkey charm and cozy atmosphere make it the perfect spot for date nights or intimate dinners.

Ichiban has held a special place in my heart since I discovered it back in 2015. At the time, I worked at Restaurant Depot and had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, who came in regularly. His kindness and warm demeanor piqued my curiosity, leading me to visit Ichiban—and I’ve been hooked ever since. I can’t even count how many times I’ve been here over the years, and the quality has never wavered. The food is exceptional, and the service always top-notch.

One of my favorite aspects of Ichiban is the unique seating options. You can choose to sit at a Japanese-style table on pillows, which adds a fun, authentic touch, or opt for a regular table. Personally, I love the privacy of the booths, as they create a cozy and intimate vibe. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a stunning koi pond with vibrant fish and the soothing sound of running water, which sets the tone for a relaxing experience.

The staff here is always welcoming and attentive, making sure you never feel forgotten or wondering where your food is. My boyfriend and I agree—you truly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I always make sure to come with an empty stomach because I want to savor as much sushi as possible—it’s THAT good.

Speaking of sushi, Ichiban’s sushi menu is a dream come true. I’ve had the pleasure of trying nearly every roll, and there’s truly something for everyone, no matter your taste. The appetizers are consistently delicious, and their Sake Margaritas are a must-try! If you’re more of a beer person, I recommend pairing your meal with a Sapporo—a classic Japanese beer that complements the cuisine perfectly. If you order more than two sushi rolls, they’ll often serve them on a beautiful sushi boat, elegantly crafted with flowers and arranged to perfection. It’s an experience that makes the meal feel even more special.

Another standout feature of Ichiban is its affordability. Despite offering some of the best sushi in Austin, they’ve managed to keep their prices competitive without compromising on quality—a rare find these days. While reservations are available, they’re usually not necessary unless it’s a holiday or Valentine’s Day.

Overall, Ichiban is a gem that I will always support and recommend. From the amazing food to the warm ambiance and outstanding service, it’s clear that Ichiban is a labor of love. It will forever have my business, and I wish them nothing but continued success. If you’re a sushi lover or just looking for a special dining experience, Ichiban is the place to go!
