We pull up to a gorgeous property in Manor, Texas on an ideal Saturday afternoon. It is about 74 degrees outside, and the energy already feels calm. Rein & Restore Foundation is a family-centered, family-run nonprofit that uses mentoring, outdoor wellness activities, and shared experiences to build confidence, connection, and stability within the community.

The session started with some small bites to begin the morning, then we formed a circle and introduced ourselves. Everyone was invited, but never required, to share one word describing how they were feeling that day. After that, we went back around the circl,e and anyone who wanted to speak more could answer the prompts: What do you want to work on for yourself, and what do you want people to feel while in your presence? The circle included kids of many ages, teens, young adults, and parents. Everyone is welcome to come and participate, and that openness was felt immediately.

Once we got familiar with one another, we took a wellness walk with the horses across the pasture. The horses were incredibly intuitive and interactive, and it was the most calming walk I have had in a while. The group then had the opportunity to ride the horses with assistance, getting comfortable with the animals and building a real sense of connection and trust.

The next activity was ATV riding, helmets on of course. Dre, the owner and instructor, made sure to properly guide and instruct the group through every activity with safety as the priority. Every age group showed respect for the land, the equipment, and the animals, which made the experience both fun and grounding at the same time.

We wrapped up with a group picture and more conversation around community and life. At the end of the day, they prepared lunch for everyone to either eat on-site or take home. Today it was spaghetti, and honestly, that felt like the most precious thing ever.

Rein & Restore Foundation is Black-owned and deeply committed to giving back to and educating the community in meaningful ways. This visit was confirmation for both my mother and me that we are on the right track with our vision for our own family legacy. Seeing this work in action was inspiring, affirming, and powerful. I cannot wait to visit again, ride horses, and continue building connections with the animals and the people who care for and train them.
