If you had told me a few years ago that I would voluntarily order a Guinness, I would have laughed. My fiancé orders one almost every time we go out and keeps it stocked at home. Naturally, I would take a sip here and there. At first, I did not get it.
Somewhere along the way, it clicked.
I am a big coffee and espresso martini person, and once I realized Guinness has those same roasted, slightly bitter, smooth notes, it made sense. Then I started pairing it with oysters and fried seafood, and that sealed the deal. It is rich but not heavy, creamy but still crisp. When it is poured correctly, it just hits.
So if you are looking for a tried and true list of places to get a consistent, well-poured Guinness in Austin, you are in the right place. My fiancé absolutely knows his way around a proper pint, and I am catching on quickly.
Quick disclaimer. No bar is perfect 100 percent of the time. That is just reality. But these spots have stood out for consistency, atmosphere, customer service, and how they handle the pour.
Murray’s Tavern
2316 Webberville Rd, Austin, TX 78702
We have been here several times and have yet to be disappointed. They take their Guinness seriously. They still have the foam printing machine that their vendor left behind. If you ask, they will print an image on the foam for an extra dollar. Tell me that is not fun.
The oysters are fresh and memorable. The prime rib and sandwiches are easily 10 out of 10. The staff is welcoming, and the decor really gives authentic Irish pub energy. I will always find an excuse to come back here.
High Noon
2000 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702
I genuinely run out of fingers trying to count how many times we have been here. The staff, the music, the patios, and most importantly, the Guinness have been on point every single time.
They often have a DJ or live music, plus a spacious front and back patio. Pro tip. Order from Johnny’s Tacos right outside. The birria and consommé situation is life-changing.
B.D. Riley’s Irish Pub\
1905 Aldrich St #130, Austin, TX 78723
If you want that classic Irish pub sports bar vibe, this is your spot. Their Guinness on tap is consistently one of the best in Austin. The energy on game days is unmatched, but get there early because it fills up fast.
Oribello’s
519 W 37th St, Austin, TX 78705
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. We stopped in after walking through the 37th Street lights and ordered a Guinness on a whim. Solid pour. I have heard great things about the food, so I am planning a proper return soon.
Seven Grand
405 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701
Between the pool tables, the back patio, and the seriously impressive spirits selection, this place is already a win. Add in a properly poured Guinness, and it is a wrap. The bartenders know exactly what they are doing.
Scholz Garten
1607 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX 78701
The patio alone makes this place worth visiting. Order a Guinness and literally anything with meat from the menu, and you are set. It is simple, classic, and consistently good.
Draught House Pub & Brewery
4112 Medical Pkwy, Austin, TX 78756
This place is the real deal. The staff is knowledgeable and low-key in the best way. One time, a bartender randomly let my fiancé take his Guinness glass home, and we cherish that thing. The patio has plenty of seating and big umbrellas, which make it a solid summer option.
The Far Out Lounge
8504 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78745
Far Out hosts live shows and events all the time. If you find yourself here for a concert or market, you are safe ordering the Guinness. It is good to know your pint will not disappoint mid-show.
Drinks Lounge
2001 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702
This is my personal go-to bar. Pool tables, patio, and a reliable Guinness on tap. That alone keeps it in rotation.
Jack & Ginger’s Irish Pub
11500B Rock Rose Ave, Austin, TX 78758
Fun vibe, darts, sports, and friendly staff every single time. Another dependable spot for a Guinness in North Austin.
The Grackle
1700 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78702
Inclusive atmosphere, pool tables, darts, and strong tap options. Their Guinness holds its own here.
Foxy’s Proper Pub
201 Brazos St Bldg B, Austin, TX 78701
Brass Tap
204 E Main St, Round Rock, TX 78664
Kelly’s Irish Pub
519 W Oltorf St, Austin, TX 78704
Shangri-La
1016 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78702
Black Sheep Lodge
2108 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704
All solid options when you are craving a Guinness and want something dependable.
